Everton attacker Richarlison has spoken about the importance of beating Chelsea in the Premier League before the international break. The Toffees were regarded as the outsiders for the league meeting against the Blues and they managed to produce a strong performance to come up with a 2-0 triumph.
Since then, there has no league action for the past two weeks due to an international break but Richarlison has emphasised that the Blues’ win should encourage them to make progress further up the table, he said: “It was an important win and a great performance by Everton. All the players played well as a team.
“We’ve played well against the so-called big six teams before and it was great to be rewarded with the three points. It was a really important victory because there was a gap appearing between sixth and seventh place and ourselves in the table. Now we want to get three more points on Saturday and climb the table. We want to hit form and go on a good run.”
Marco Silva was regularly criticised through the media during the previous month after the club succumbed to back-to-back league defeats. However, they have since impressed with two wins and one draw from the next four games and that has included top-notch displays against Liverpool and Chelsea.
Moreover, they have also improved on the defensive scale with three clean sheets during that period and it will be interesting to see whether they can maintain the good run of form when they face West Ham United on the road this weekend. The Mersey side outfit succumbed to a disappointing 3-1 defeat to the Hammers during the reverse fixture in September and Silva will be hoping that the players can avenge the loss with another solid display on both ends of the field.
