After ten years since Chelsea football club obtained the record as the second team in the premier league history to have won the title two years in a row, former player Paulo Ferreira, who was a part of the victories at the club, has come out to reminisce about his time at the club.
“It’s always hard after winning the league because other top teams buy new players and increase the quality of their squad, we had a wonderful squad at that time, and there weren’t too many major changes. We knew how difficult it was going to be to retain the title,” Ferreira said.
The former Chelsea defender who played for the second time at the club during the 2005/2006 season recalls the wonderful experiences he had at the club; he has spoken about the key moments in competitions that were responsible for the team’s gradual journey to victory.
He remembered that the struggle had started with the blues in a tough position after they had just won the premier league title in the previous year in a glorious fashion.
He stated that, being the favorites and defending champions had led to a great deal of expectation for the team to bag the title again. With the title defense on the line, the team was put in a very tight spot complete with public scrutiny and rigorous training schedules.
However this was not a new feeling for Ferreira as he had been a part of the FC Porto team that had won their consecutive league titles and he was one of the few players in the lineup that could relate to that feeling.
“It was a fantastic day, especially playing at home in front of our own supporters,” the ex Blues star said.
