Portuguese fullback Paulo Ferreira ended his FC Porto in the summer of 2004 with a lot of trophies thanks in part to the self acclaimed Special One ‘Jose Mourinho’. Mourinho was the catalyst behindFerreira leaving fellow Portuguese team Vitoria Setubal to join Porto. Mourinho also played a big part in Paulo Ferreira leaving his native Portugal to sign for Chelsea in the Premier League. Ferreira left Porto to join the Blues in the summer of 2014 shortly after the club named Mourinho as the new manager. Chelsea paid around €20m to sign Paulo Ferreira from Porto.
Paulo Ferreira won six trophies in his two-year stay at FC Porto. He was at Porto for a period of two years from 2002 to 2004 on the back of his transfer from Setubal. Mourinho was the manager throughout his FC Porto career and he was responsible for converting him from a right winger to a right-back.
In his first season at FC Porto, Ferreira became a league winner for the first time in his career. In addition to the 2002/03 Portuguese Super League title, Ferreira also won the 2002/03 Portuguese Cup title and the 2002/03 UEFA Cup title.
Paulo Ferreira was in the starting XI as a relatively youthful FC Porto team won the UEFA Cup by beating Celtic 3-2 at the end of extra time in the final. Brazilian striker Derlei scored a brace including the winning goal in extra time to lead his team to glory. Swedish football legend Henrik Larsson was the recipient of the two Celtic goals during the game.
In his second season as an FC Porto player, Paulo Ferreira won the Portuguese Super Cup, the Portuguese Super League and the UEFA Champions League titles. In total, the fullback won two league titles, two European titles and two cup titles.
